Washington DC - A California man was recently arrested for bringing a giant guillotine to the nation's capitol.

According to a press release from the US Capitol Police, Philan-Tam-Duy Le (35) of Julian, California, was arrested just after 3 PM on Tuesday after officers spotted his truck with the massive weapon in the bed illegally parked along the 100 block of East Capitol Street.

The suspect is believed to have driven all the way from his home state to DC. Authorities say they are analyzing his background to learn about why he made the trip.

While his motive remains unclear, the suspect's brother Kelvin Le – who was surprised by the news – told The Los Angeles Times that his sibling was critical of both Democrats and Republicans, and described the guillotine as a "symbol of disapproval."

"I don't think he'd hurt anyone,” Kelvin added.

The bizarre incident comes as politicians have been facing a sharp increase in threats of violence in recent years. Back in February, a man was arrested after he was spotted charging towards the Capitol building wielding a shotgun and wearing a tactical vest.

President Donald Trump has also evaded several assassination attempts and violent incidents. In April, a gunman rushed into the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner with a loaded weapon, but was abruptly stopped and apprehended by Secret Service agents.

Fortunately, the Capitol building was nearly empty this past Tuesday, as lawmakers have been away this week on a pre-scheduled recess.
