Penn State rocked by bombshell arrests over fraternity's alleged cocaine trafficking ring

State College, Pennsylvania - Penn State has been rocked by a massive scandal where more than a dozen people – including several current students – have been charged in connection with an alleged cocaine-trafficking ring.

14 people, including alleged ringleader Agostino Abbatiello (r), have been charged in connection with cocaine trafficking at Penn State.

According to ABC7, 13 of the 14 defendants were students at the university when the alleged drug trafficking occurred between 2023 and 2024.

The remaining defendant is one of their fathers, whom authorities claim helped to hide drugs and money.

Bombshell court filings allege that the Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi fraternity houses were closely tied to the ring, and senior fraternity members Agostino Abbatiello and Thomas Robinson were the leaders of the operation.

The documents also reveal that fraternity pledges were asked to cut and package cocaine as part of the initiation process towards joining the fraternity.

"This was a coordinated and highly-profitable drug-trafficking crew revolving around two senior members of the fraternities, other fraternity brothers, and pledges," Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday said.

Investigators currently believe that the cocaine trafficked by the ring was distributed to other Penn State students.

As a result of the arrests, Penn State has placed Delta Upsilon on interim suspension, while Sigma Chi is not an officially recognized fraternity and thus "operates outside of the University's support and oversight."

Vice President for Student Affairs Andrea Dowhower said she was "horrified" by the allegations and promised the school would "cooperate with law enforcement in any way we can."

Pennsylvania's attorney general confirmed on Tuesday that alleged ringleader Agostino Abbatiello, who is facing several felony charges, had surrendered to authorities.
