Fairfield, California – In a busy Spirit Halloween store at a shopping mall in Fairfield, California, a shooter opened fire. One person was killed and six others were injured.
Dramatic scenes unfolded on Friday night at the Solano Town Center in Fairfield, as the New York Post reported. Around 8:30 PM, several shots were fired inside a Spirit Halloween store. At the time, the seasonal shop was packed with shoppers finishing their last Halloween purchases.
According to Police Chief Dan Marshall, one person was declared dead at the scene. Six others were taken to the hospital, three of them initially listed in critical condition. No information on the victims' identities or ages was immediately available.
When the gunfire erupted, panic broke out among the customers. People screamed and fled the store, seeking refuge in the parking lot and other areas of the mall.
A witness told KCRA that his wife heard about seven gunshots. After that, people ran away screaming and crying.
Employees of nearby stores also witnessed the chaos. A Spirit Halloween employee fled to a nearby Chipotle restaurant to hide.
The police deployed a large force, and special units searched the entire shopping center to rule out any further threats and locate the perpetrator.
The FBI office in Sacramento has since confirmed that a response team was sent to Fairfield for evidence collection to assist local investigators. So far, no published description of the alleged shooter exists, nor any confirmed information about a possible motive.
The incident in Fairfield occurred only a few hours after another fatal shooting in Michigan. There, a 21‑year‑old man was found in a store in Madison Heights with multiple gunshot wounds and died on the scene.
