Cape May, New Jersey – A former teacher has pleaded guilty in a bombshell case of sexual abuse that saw her give birth to a baby fathered by her 13-year-old student. Following her conviction, the 36‑year‑old faces a minimum sentence of five years in prison.

Former middle school teacher Laura Caron from New Jersey pleaded guilty to child endangerment through sexual conduct.

According to Yahoo! News, she reached an agreement with prosecutors that required her to surrender her teaching license and forgo any future public‑sector employment.

Caron had previously been charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and child endangerment. Prosecutors say she maintained a "relationship" with a student for years.

When the sexual contact began in 2016, the boy was just 11 years old and was in Caron's fifth‑grade class.

Because the teacher was friends with the child's family, the minor often stayed over at Caron's house and eventually lived with her permanently.

His parents never suspected, over the four‑year period, that the two had become far too close.

In 2019, the teacher gave birth to a baby and later shared pictures of her child on social media.

In 2024, her student's father grew suspicious when he noticed that Caron's five‑year‑old child looked a lot like his son.

The father then publicly voiced his concerns, prompting the responsible school board to intervene and launch an investigation.

During questioning, the then‑13‑year‑old eventually confirmed that he had been in a sexual relationship with his teacher for years and that he was the father of her child.

A later hearing revealed that the boy had been abused a total of 416 times.

In court, Laura Caron agreed to a five‑year prison sentence in a state facility. Whether she will serve a longer term will be decided soon by an assessment that will determine if she exhibits "repetitive and/or compulsive" behavior.

Regardless of the sentence, one thing is already clear: The former teacher will have to register as a sex offender after her imprisonment and will remain on probation for the rest of her life.

The sentencing is expected early next year.
