New York, New York - A knife-wielding woman fatally stabbed one person and critically wounded another in New York's Times Square on Monday before being shot dead by police.
According to The New York Times, the deadly incident occurred just before 4:30 PM ET near Seventh Avenue and West 41st Street.
An eyewitness said that the woman attacked a female victim before fleeing north.
"She didn't say nothing," the eyewitness said of the suspect. "She walked up to her. She stabbed her in the stomach."
The female victim is said to have died of her injuries, while the other stabbing victim, a man, remains in critical condition.
The suspect refused to drop the two knives she was holding when police approached and began running towards the officers, after which they opened fire. The woman was taken away by paramedics and later died, per the Times.
Law enforcement does not believe the stabbing was terrorism-related, with sources telling ABC News that the suspect was "emotionally disturbed" with "no clear motive."
The New York Police Department is expected to hold a press conference on the incident sometime later on Monday.
"Right now, it's still an active and ongoing investigation," a spokeswoman told AFP.
