Nancy Guthrie case sees new update as police face criticism for chasing fresh leads months in

Tucson, Arizona - It's been nearly nine months since Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today Show co-host Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her Arizona home. But police have shared a new update on the case that could lead to a major break, and the public is demanding more.

A former FBI agent recently told journalist Brian Entin that the key to cracking the Nancy Guthrie case and identifying a suspect (which doesn't seem to have happened) may lie in jails, by talking to inmates about what they may know.

But the Pima County Sheriff's Department doesn't appear to be doing that, and the public has opinions about it. Instead, the department sent investigators to Florida to chat with lab scientists "to see what more could be done to advance the case."

The Pima County Sheriff's Department, in a post on X, revealed that a "number of ideas were discussed," sharing that they "continue to work with all of our partners to solve this case."

They again reiterated that "no tip is too small" because "even the smallest piece of information could be critical to this investigation."

But several members of the public seem to be losing faith in the local sheriff's office, with one X user replying, "I’M SORRY… WHAT?! This woman has been missing for almost a freaking year, and THAT is the best update you have?! Are you kidding me. Good grief. What an absolute clown show."

Entin also shared the latest update from Pima County on his X page, and his followers had a lot to say.

"They flopped under the leadership of that incompetent sheriff and the case will never be solved by them. Insane that they haven’t had any legitimate leads considering the perpetrator was caught on camera and much of his facial features can clearly be made out," X user @ethanlculver said, referencing the security camera footage released of a possible masked suspect.

Another X user replied, "The math isn’t mathing and I am not a conspiracy theorist but this case something more is going on."

Though the local sheriff's department has yet to release any compelling information publicly, it does not necessarily mean they don't have strong evidence and leads behind closed doors – similar to how the Latah County Sheriff's Office kept a lot close to them when they were working to arrest convicted murderer Brian Kohberger.

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her Arizona home in the early hours of February 1. No suspects have been named in the case, despite the public pleas and cash incentives offered by investigators and her daughter, Savannah.
