Nolan Wells' mom speaks out against drowning claims as protests, pleas continue: "Have you people lost your minds?!"
Ocean Springs, Mississippi - The mother of Nolan Wells, a Mississippi teen who was found dead after a July 4 outing to Horn Island, has a message for those telling her to "accept my child's death" as people across the US continue calls for a federal investigation after the Department of Justice said investigators failed to find foul play.
Days after appearing at a press conference in California, Wells' mother, Christine Wells Wonsley, offered a stern warning to those viewing her social media pages.
"DO NOT COME to my page and try to explain to me that despite there being NO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE of a drowning/dry drowning in either autopsy report that I need to accept my child’s death and move on," she wrote on Wednesday in a photo post on Instagram.
"MANNER AND CAUSE: UNDETERMINED!!! Have you people lost your minds?!? So you’re telling me if YOUR CHILD DIED under these same exact circumstances you would not fight for the truth?!?," she continued. Well guess what, God built me differently and I WILL NOT stop. So please take your opinions, feelings, “prayers,” and everything else in between elsewhere if this is how you are thinking or feeling!"
Wells' mom said what makes the "vile messages, comments, etc." worse is that they are from "self-proclaimed Christians."
The same day of Wonsley's post, numerous protests broke out across the US, with people demanding answers and a further investigation. Wells' family's attorney, Ben Crump, posted footage from several, including one in Atlanta, Georgia, and another in Prairie View, Texas.
On Tuesday, People reported that the Department of Justice claimed they believe there is no evidence of foul play, noting federal officials assisted in the initial investigation and agree with the view of local authorities.
"I am not gonna rest 'til the family of Nolan Wells gets justice," Pastor Jamal Bryant said on Wednesday after news broke that the feds were not planning on opening an investigation into Wells' death. "Somebody knows something. Somebody is hiding something."
"For the prosecutor to never name a person of interest, or name a cause of death, doesn't sit well with me," Bryant added. "I want to go on record that Warren Hudson, Wyatt Pyron, Bart Edmiston Jr., and Will Parker need to be brought in immediately ... for questioning, because one of them had to have seen something, but none of them are saying anything."
Recently, Warren – alongside Wells' friends Jax Pitalo and Morgan Seymour – told Fox News last week that since Wells' death, he's "learned to lean on the Lord. I know my friends did as well. ... I know it's what Nolan would want me to do."
