New York, New York - Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently weighed in on Michigan candidate Abdul El-Sayed's senate race, suggesting that if he could achieve victory, other progressives can too.
According to The New York Times, AOC gave a speech at a closed-door fundraiser on Monday and described El-Sayed's race as part of a "generational project" for progressive Democrats.
"What we do is that we break open the entire political calculus in America – period," AOC told the crowd.
"Because if you can win, if Abdul can win in Michigan, anybody can win anywhere," she added.
AOC's remarks come as she has been reportedly considering a run for president in 2028.
The Times noted that her comments "shined some light on how the results of the fall midterm elections could affect her decision."
El-Sayed is running against Mike Rogers, a Republican who has a strong endorsement from President Donald Trump.
The right has focused much of their attacks against El-Sayed on his Muslim faith and Arab background, which may serve to help him, as Michigan – especially in cities like Detroit – has some of the largest Muslim populations in the country.
In her speech, AOC went on to urge voters to do whatever they can to grow El-Sayed's support and painted him as a leader for the future of the party.
She further stated that America is "going to come out of this nightmare stronger than we've ever been before," but insisted that effort "starts with Abdul."
