Columbia, Tennessee - Contentious Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles on Thursday lost his primary bid for reelection, despite having a strong endorsement from President Donald Trump.

Ogles, who has represented Tennessee's 5th district since taking office in 2023, lost on Thursday to former state agricultural commissioner Charlie Hatcher, who gained 53.2% of the vote against the incumbent's 46.8%.

Hatcher will now go on to face Columbia Mayor Chaz Molder, who won the Democratic primary, in the midterms in November.

Just hours before polls closed, Trump shared a Truth Social post strongly endorsing the politician and urging voters to support him.

During his time in office, Ogles built a reputation as a staunch MAGA loyalist, habitually using his platform to defend the president's most controversial stances and policies.

He also developed a reputation of sharing arguably racist and hateful rhetoric, particularly aimed at the Muslim community.

In 2024, as he was being pressed about taxpayer money being used to drop bombs on Palestinian children, Ogles responded, "I think we should kill them all, if that makes you feel better."

In 2025, after Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor of New York City, Ogles called for him to be deported, claiming, without evidence, that he supports terrorism.

In March, he made his stance definitively clear, writing in an X post, "Muslims don't belong in American society."

The defeat makes Ogles the second Trump-backed candidate to lose his primary, joining Amir Hassan, who embarrassingly lost his Michigan primary to a candidate who had dropped out of the race earlier this week.
