Kimberly Guilfoyle steps down as ambassador to Greece amid bribery fallout
Washington DC - Kimberly Guilfoyle, the US ambassador to Greece, has officially stepped down from her role in President Donald Trump's administration following a damning bribery scandal.
In a lengthy X post shared on Tuesday, Guilfoyle described her time as ambassador as "the honor of a lifetime," touted several of her most notable accomplishments, and repeatedly praised Trump for giving her such a great opportunity.
She then went on to address recent allegations she has faced of using a pay-to-play scheme to gain money from a wealthy MAGA donor.
"These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity," Guilfoyle wrote, adding, "I will not allow false accusations to define my decades of public service."
The post came after reporting found that Guilfoyle had begged donor Eric Deters to pay off her Amex credit card bill in exchange for favors using her connections within the administration.
On Tuesday, Trump's new press secretary Katie Zacharia revealed to reporters during her very first White House press briefing that the administration had asked Guilfoyle to resign.
Along with her ambassador role, Guilfoyle is also a former Fox News anchor and the ex of the president's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.
Trump and members of his administration have faced countless allegations of pushing pay-to-play schemes, in which they offer individuals reprieve from problems only the federal government can quickly rectify in exchange for something that furthers their interests, such as massive campaign donations.
