Washington DC - President Donald Trump on Thursday lost another key member of his administration after Calley Means – the senior advisor to Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. – abruptly resigned.
In a brief X post, Means announced he was resigning "with tremendous respect for President Trump and Bobby Kennedy."
"They laid out a vision of combating the entrenched, dark forces in DC that profit from Americans getting sick," Means wrote, adding that their Make American Health Again (MAHA) movement "is just getting started."
Means concluded his post by listing some MAHA policies and accomplishments that he was most proud of, but he did not give any insight into his decision to leave.
According to Politico, members of the MAHA movement have been feeling increasingly "disillusioned," as their successes have been overshadowed by the Trump administration's support for the pesticide industry and unfulfilled promises on food policy.
Two sources told the outlet that Means, too, felt there was a lack of progress on MAHA priorities, and he reportedly met his breaking point this week after Kennedy postponed a meeting in which he planned to discuss defining ultra-processed foods.
His resignation comes with the November midterm elections just two weeks away, and Republicans are fighting to maintain their majorities in both the House and Senate.
Less than two years into Trump's second term, the administration has already seen numerous firings and resignations. Most recently, new White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia was let go after only five days on the job.
