Washington DC - President Donald Trump is once again claiming vandals are behind the damage to a site in the nation's capital, despite having held a huge celebration there only weeks earlier.
On Sunday night, the president shared a Truth Social post appearing to show dead and damaged grass on the National Mall.
"Look what VANDALS did to the grass connecting the vandalized World War II Monument and the vandalized Reflecting Pool, which will be opened again, and better than ever, shortly," Trump wrote.
According to The Washington Post, Trump gave a speech on a large stage set up on the grass on the Fourth of July for his "Salute to America" celebration. Photos taken after workers dismantled the stage showed damage to the area.
Trump also held a massive UFC fight on the White House lawn, similarly damaging the area, which the MAGA-friendly CEO of a private lawn-products company has vowed to restore on his own dime.
The president has been repeatedly making unfounded claims of vandalism on renovation projects he has committed to in his second term.
Most recently, he publicly lashed out at US Attorney Jeanine Pirro, who concluded a "botched" renovation job was behind the damage to his Reflecting Pool renovations – not former Olympian David Hearn, as Trump had insisted.
In his Sunday post, Trump appeared to take a shot at Pirro again, writing, "Anybody who thinks the Reflecting Pool wasn't vandalized should go back to Law School!"
