Washington DC - President Donald Trump recently claimed that gas prices are now much lower than they were under his predecessor, Joe Biden.

While speaking to reporters on Sunday, the president promised that currently high gas prices "will come dropping down as soon as Iran gives up," a claim he has repeatedly made since launching a war against the country alongside Israel back in February.

He went on to argue that things could be worse, as he claims they were under Biden.

"Prices for groceries have come way down for Biden. Almost every price has come way down," Trump wrote.

"And remember one thing – oil is less expensive now than it was under the Biden administration," he added.

The president's claims come as prices have been rapidly rising due to the war. AAA reports that the price of regular gas is currently $4.48 a gallon, and diesel recently reached a record high of $6.47.

Both are continuing to rise, as the Iran war appears to have no end in sight.

Some states have seen wildly high averages, with Hawaii, Nevada, and Washington all seeing over $5.50 per gallon at the pump, and California paying over $6 on average, and roughly $8 per gallon for diesel.

According to PolitiFact, gas prices under Biden peaked at $5.00 in June 2022, caused mainly by increased demand as the economy recovered from disruptions wrought by the coronavirus pandemic. The prices quickly fell back down, reaching $3.20 by the end of the year.

Trump has desperately been trying to tamp down anger among Americans over the high prices as Republicans fight to maintain their majority in Congress in the November midterm elections.
