Washington DC - President Donald Trump's latest post about Greenland has drawn ire as concern mounts that he intends to take over the Danish territory.
Trump on Sunday posted a picture to Truth Social which showed his face looking over a globe, his eyes settling on Greenland. The post was ominously captioned: "His Hemisphere."
The picture came only days after Trump announced that the US has entered into an agreement with Denmark – and therefore, Greenland – to give Washington permanent control over the territory's security.
"From now on, no US adversary can EVER have a base in Greenland, have a military presence in Greenland, or make sensitive investments in Greenland, without our express written approval," Trump declared at the time.
While Denmark initially heaved a sign of relief, its foreign minister touting an agreement that "strengthens security in the Arctic and North Atlantic," that positivity quickly turned to anger and concern.
This was particularly strong among Greenland residents, who told the AFP over the weekend that they're concerned about what "permanent control" means for their sovereignty.
"Whenever the US and Trump are mentioned, I have mixed feelings. I'm not entirely comfortable with how much attention Greenland has right now," one resident told AFP.
Trump's behavior slammed as "psychotic" and "sick"
In response to Trump's latest threat, anger has escalated.
"How would we react if any world leader behaved like this?" asked MeidasTouch's Ben Meiselas on X, referencing the picture.
"The fact is there are no comparable historical examples of this level of psychotic behavior. This isn't funny. This isn't trolling. This is sick behavior. It's really sick stuff. And it's really hurting a lot of people," he wrote.
