Washington DC - Democratic Senator John Fetterman on Tuesday lost his patience while facing questions about his decision to praised President Donald Trump and Republicans during their midterm convention last week.
While walking through the Capitol building on Tuesday, Fetterman ignored reporters as they pressed him about claims from former staffers that he has "little interest" in his day-to-day job as a Senator.
When reporters brought up a prerecorded video message he shared at the Republican Party's midterm convention last week, Fetterman lost it.
"I'm not going to be a Republican!" the Pennsylvania Senator exclaimed.
"Why can't you guys just wait until the midterm, you know, and if I turn a Republican, then I'll be a liar."
"My name is not on the ballot. Chill," he added. "I've always been a Democrat. No matter how many times I say that, I'm still getting asked just getting into the elevator."
John Fetterman faces heat for cozying up with MAGA
In recent months, Fetterman has gained the ire of voters and colleagues by going out of his way to defend President Donald Trump and his MAGA agenda. He does all this while standing in defiance against his own party's platform.
Most notably, Fetterman is a staunch defender of Israel and a supporter of Trump's unpopular war with Iran. Both positions conflicts with the majority of Democratic voters.
In his video message at the GOP convention last week, Fetterman insisted he was a "commonsense Democrat" who rejects "the extremes and socialism and that anti way of life."
Following the video message and concerning allegations from his staff, Fetterman has been facing calls to step down, as critics believe he is no longer working to represent the Democratic Party, its voters, or their interests.
A small minority have stepped up to defend the politician – Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer telling Punchbowl News he believes Fetterman is a "strong Democrat," adding: "We value his viewpoint even when we don't agree with him."
Former Fetterman staffers had promised to release a trove of damning information on social media about the Senator on September 14, but still have yet to do so.
