Washington DC - First Lady Melania Trump recently garnered some laughs after she tried to praise her husband President Donald Trump for being an empathetic and caring leader.
On Wednesday, the Trumps held a Mother's Day event in the East Wing of the White House that honored the mothers of US servicemembers, particularly those who have been killed or are currently fighting in the war with Iran.
The first lady delivered a speech detailing the "powerful connection" mothers have with their children, saying that mothers of servicemembers overseas "find themselves alone, awake with their thoughts, in the darkest hours of the night."
In conclusion, Melania said her husband also held the same level of compassion – though the crowd didn't seem to buy it.
"Most know my husband as the strong Commander in Chief, but his empathy transcends the role and shapes a caring leader," Melania began, pausing to laugh along with the crowd.
Trump was seen to the right of his wife, giving a slight nod to the crowd as she said it, as if to signal even he doesn't believe it.
"Who constantly remembers each and every American soldier is someone's child," Melania finished, before handing the podium over to the president.
To date, the conflict has resulted in the death of 13 US soldiers and over 400 have been wounded.
The president has faced heavy criticism over his conflicting updates about the war, as he repeatedly promises peace while threatening genocide in Iran.
