New York, New York - New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has responded after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attacked him and his wife during a recent speech before the United Nations.

In a statement shared on Friday, Mamdani accused Netanyahu of "using his speech to repeat baseless lies meant to sanitize his genocide of Palestinians."

"Yet no lie can change the fact that he remains the subject of an International Criminal Court arrest warrant alleging war crimes and crimes against humanity," Mamdani added.

The mayor's remarks come after Netanyahu gave a speech before the UN General Assembly on Thursday, during which he accused Mamdani of being "antisemitic" and claimed "Jews no longer feel safe" in New York City since he took office.

He also took aim at Mamdani's wife, Rama Duwaji, for allegedly liking a social media post "praising the October 7th massacre."

Mamdani has made his opposition to Netanyahu very clear. Before the prime minister's visit, he threatened to execute an International Criminal Court arrest warrant against the leader, but later conceded that he did not have the authority.

He has also repeatedly called for freedom for Palestinians and has accused Netanyahu of being a "war criminal" who has willfully committed genocide.

In a video shared on X, Mamdani revealed that he planted an olive tree at Gracie Mansion with Palestinian families from Gaza the night before Netanyahu gave his speech.
