Washington DC - In the month of July, Immigration and Customs Enforcement reported its highest number of arrests since President Donald Trump's return to office.
According to The Washington Post, ICE recently shared data with Congress that showed the agency arrested more than 43,000 people in July, marking its highest monthly total under the second Trump administration.
The figure managed to top June arrests, which previously set the record with just under 40,000.
The rising numbers come as the Trump administration and federal agents continue to face heavy criticism over their aggressive tactics, which have resulted in violence and, in some cases, deaths.
Back in February, two US citizens – Renee Good and Alex Pretti – were fatally shot during two separate incidents in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
At the time, Trump suggested he would back off a bit, but that clearly was not the case.
Last month, during traffic stops, agents in Texas fatally shot Mexican national Lorenzo Salgado Araujo on Jul 7, and only six days later, agents in Maine shot and killed a Colombian man named Joan Sebastian Guerrero on July 13.
Following their murders, DHS ordered agents to temporarily halt traffic stops, but resumed the practice less than a week later.
The agency is now sending agents to make arrests at airports around the country.
The Trump administration has insisted their efforts are focused on deporting violent criminals, but reports have shown that the majority of those arrested do not have criminal records.
