Bailey played for the Kansas City Chiefs for eight seasons – just before they began their successful Super Bowl era.

The team selected him in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Previously, the defender played at the University of Miami.

In the final two years of his career, he was a defensive end for the Atlanta Falcons.

There are slight discrepancies in his tackle totals. ESPN lists 248 career tackles, while the NFL credits him with 234.

In his 133 regular‑season games, he recorded 22 quarterback sacks. One year, he even played alongside current Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

"It was terrible to hear that news later last night. We're praying for his family, and know that all his teammates, we've talked, and we know that we're going to do whatever we can to support those guys," said the star signal-caller.

Head coach Andy Reid also honored his former protégé, whom he coached from 2013 to 2018.

"Way too young, obviously. One of my favorite players. Great kid. Just sorry to see that happened to him," he said.

In his final year with the Chiefs, the defender went out with a bang: Bailey led the NFL with four forced opponent fumbles in 2018.

It wasn't an all‑time record, but it was the league's best for the entire season. He then moved on to the Falcons. Bailey never won a Super Bowl.

Still, in January 2016, he helped the Chiefs celebrate their first playoff victory in 22 years.

His only NFL touchdown came in the spectacular 51‑54 loss to the Rams during a Monday night game on November 19, 2018.

In that game, Bailey recorded a sack and two fumble recoveries. Off the field, he has been supporting families and young athletes in his home region through the Allen Bailey Foundation since 2012.

Whether his death will be addressed in the upcoming Chiefs game remains unclear. Kansas City plays on the road against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night.
