Campo, Spain - When a family in Spain took in the blind cat Patí, they hoped their other kitties would adopt the youngster. But soon, the worst-case scenario unfolded: The kitten was shunned by the resident felines! When the owners came across a small puppy up for adoption, however, they devised a plan...
Three years ago, the blind animal moved into the house in the Spanish countryside.
"Three years ago, we adopted our first blind cat. He was only a few weeks old when we brought him home, and we hoped he would form a strong bond with our other cats," the owners explained on Instagram.
"Unfortunately, things didn't go exactly as we had hoped."
Over the years, the family had already taken in three other cats, who got along well with each other. With Patí, however, it was a completely different story.
For weeks the cat owners tried to get the animals to accept each other, but to no avail: "They avoided him more and more, and one of them even start attacking him whenver he came too close."
Despair set in at first, because none of the four‑legged members were supposed to leave the house – after all, they were all part of the family.
But the Spainards certainly didn't expect that bringing another animal into the house would change everything!
Blind cat becomes besties with new puppy: "They're still soulmates"
Several months after the blind kitten moved in with them, the owners came across a puppy that was up for adoption.
Adopting a dog had long been on their list, but when Patí entered their lives, they put that plan on hold and intended to wait a little longer.
Yet the puppy named Rex seemed meant for them.
"We had no idea how big he would become or whether he would be a good match for Patí. But we couldn't leave him behind, and we would make it work," the family recalled.
As soon as they brought Rex home, they introduced him to cat Patí.
"Within five seconds, they started playing, and they never stopped."
The family now says bringing Rex home was the best decision they've ever made.
"Three years later, they're still soulmates. Their bond has changed as they’ve both matured, but they still spend lots of time together and love playing with each other."
