According to The Guardian, the incident occurred on Friday near the town of Winter Garden.

Steve Hamilton was reportedly fishing on the edge of a pond when an alligator suddenly dragged him into the water. Rescue services were alerted at around 5:20 PM local time.

The responding crews tried to save the man but were blocked by additional alligators nearby.

Several hours later, only Hamilton's body could be recovered. The animal identified as responsible for the attack was later located and killed.

The local police chief warned residents to be cautious – alligators may appear harmless at first glance, but they are dangerous wildlife.

Although fatal attacks are rare, Florida's fish and wildlife agency reports that at least 34 people have been killed by crocodilians since 1948.

Hamilton’s death came less than four months after the fatal attack on 31‑year‑old Brittany Clark. She was attacked while swimming by an alligator about 13 feet. The animal was later captured and euthanized.

The repeated incidents have also sparked a political debate. Republican Representative Greg Steube has called for a review of the protection regulations for crocodiles.

Alligators are an integral part of Florida's ecosystem. However, they should never be underestimated, as the police warned.
