Sounds crazy... and it is.

Mikayla Khramov has been volunteering for an animal‑rights organization in California for years.

The nonprofit Because We Can – Because We Care was home to an untrained rescue horse named Yupia, and the duo bonded right away.

"One day I brought my guitar and was just kind of playing for him," she told People.

A special bond quickly developed between the musician and the horse.

After she had played for Yupia, she went into his stall.

She had only intended to shoot a cute TikTok video with the horse in the background.

But things turned out very differently: Yupia immediately approached her, curious, and started playing on her guitar!

"It was really organic. I didn’t expect it at all," Mikayla said. "I thought I was just going to get a cute video of him being in the background or something. But he came up and engaged with the guitar with me."

The next day she brought a harp into the stall. Yupia was instantly fascinated by that instrument as well.

"He came up and started strumming the strings of the harp. And that’s kind of what started it all," Mikayla recalls. "Now whatever instrument I bring, even the accordion, he’ll come up, and he’ll start playing that."

Now the seven‑year‑old horse is interested in every instrument. While Yupia initially only strummed using his nose, he now tries out various techniques – sometimes even using his teeth.

She lets him explore the instruments, she says, "until I know he’s going to break something."

When their special bond began years ago, Mikayla instantly knew she wanted to take the horse in – despite never having owned a horse before.

So for years she waited for the chance to bring Yupia home.

"I volunteered there for three years just to see him, and he wasn’t available for adoption until last year," Norwood said.

"When I met him, I just couldn’t imagine not having him in my life."

Now she can finally announce a happy ending: the woman has now taken him in permanently!

Juggling everything isn’t easy. In addition to two jobs, she plays in several bands and is working on her debut album – featuring a unique twist: Yupia will be heard on the record!

He’s especially prominent on two tracks, but his sounds are scattered throughout the entire album.

Besides music, Mikayla pursues another dream: she wants to become a documentary film director!

For now, though, she's letting Yupia take the spotlight.
