Did R. Kelly just release an album from behind bars?

New York, New York - It appears that disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly, who was convicted of child pornography and sex trafficking amongst other things, has released an album from behind bars. However, the music drop may not be what it seems according to Sony.

R. Kelly's attorney claims the singer's team was not behind the brief release of an album titled I Admit It.

On Friday, something mysterious happened: a 13-track album by R. Kelly titled I Admit It briefly appeared on music streaming platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify before being removed by both.

While the discourse on Twitter has been varying, there's one question that everyone seems to be asking: Did R. Kelly really release an album from prison, and is he actually profiting off of its short-lived release?

According to a rep from Sony, which owns the rights to many songs in Kelly's catalog, the album that appeared online is an unofficial bootleg release, per Variety. Although the copyright line on the album names Legacy Recordings, which is Sony Music's catalog division, the rep stated that the release wasn't legit.

One of R. Kelly's attorneys Jennifer Bonjean told the outlet that the singer's team was not behind the album's release, and said the singer "is having intellectual property stolen from him."

The "bootleg" album that's seemingly been removed from streaming platforms, includes the 19-minute title song, which Kelly initially released in 2018. On the lengthy and slightly disturbing track, Kelly addresses the accusations against him and seemingly defends his innocence while also admitting to partaking in some questionable acts.

The singer is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence for multiple sexual misconduct-related charges in New York, and is currently awaiting trial in Illinois and other jurisdictions.

In September, Kelly was found guilty on federal child pornography charges.
