London, UK - Actor Kevin Spacey has been formally charged by British police for his alleged sex crimes.

According to a press release from the Metropolitan Police, the 62-year-old has been "formally charged" with "four counts of sexual assault against three men" and "causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent."

The star is due to appear at the Westminster Magistrates Court in London on Thursday.

Last month, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the UK’s prosecution agency, authorized the criminal charges to be brought against the disgraced star. An investigation and review followed.

Spacey was once one of Hollywood's biggest actors, having garnered Academy Awards for films like American Beauty and The Usual Suspects.

His career took a turn once he was accused of sexual assault for the first time back in 2017. As more allegations came to light, the actor began losing work, and ultimately disappeared from the public eye.

Spacey plans to defend himself in court, and says that he is "confident" he will be proven innocent.
