New York, New York - Almost five years after Kevin Spacey was first accused of sexual assault, the actor is now heading to court.

Per NBC News, jury selection began this morning in Manhattan, in a trial expected to last less than two weeks.

District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan will preside over proceedings, which are taking place at the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.

In 2017, actor Anthony Rapp came forward with allegations that Spacey sexually assaulted him at a party in New York City in 1986. Rapp was 14 at the time, while Spacey was 26 or 27.

Spacey's legal team has denied the allegations, with the Oscar-winning actor claiming that he does not remember the incident.

Both actors are expected to testify.

Rapp, who appeared in Star Trek: Discovery, first made his allegations against Spacey in a 2017 Buzzfeed article. He said that Spacey tried to seduce him at the 1986 party, carrying Rapp onto a bed and climbing on top of him before Rapp was able to free himself.

The Chicago native filed a lawsuit against the House of Cards star in September 2020, accusing him of battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He is seeking $40 million in damages.

During the deposition, Rapp testified that the encounter was no longer than two minutes and that "there was no kissing, no undressing, no reaching under clothes, and no sexualized statements or innuendo."

Although Spacey maintains that he doesn't remember the encounter, he apologized on Twitter shortly after Rapp went public with the allegations.

"But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years," Spacey åt the time.

Rapp's allegations are not the only accusations Spacey is facing at the moment. In June, the actor was formally charged by London police with four counts of sexual assault against three men.

In August, a judge ordered Spacey, who was fired from House of Cards in 2017, to pay $31 million to the show's production company for violating their sexual harassment policy.
