New Line Cinema, which brought the world the original blockbuster movies, is working together with Warner Bros. Animation to bring the new tale to Tolkien fans.

The recently announced anime film has nothing to do with Amazon's current, very expensive development of a television series of The Lord of the Rings universe. It also deals with a completely different story.

According to The Wrap, the film titled Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth around 250 years before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring. It is connected to the original trilogy and gives background on the fortress at Helm's Deep, the epicenter of the battle held in the second film, The Two Towers.

It will give detail of the reign of Rohan's legendary horselord and king, Helm Hammerhand, after whom the fortress Helm's Deep is named.

The brilliantly staged battle of the Riders of Rohan against the Orcs and Uruk-hai achieved cult status among many fans.

Hammerhand spent much of his reign waging a costly and protracted war, which will be the focus of this new work.

Accomplished anime filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama, known for Ultraman, will direct the film. Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews who worked on The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance are responsible for the screenplay, and Philippa Boyens, who wrote all the scripts for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, will advise them.
