Just what exactly is a butterfly?

That question may take a while to answer in the DCEU series.

On Thursday, the latest episode for the fast-paced series dropped and left viewers in shock after it was revealed that someone on Peacemaker's team is a butterfly.

And yet the craziness didn't stop there.

Still amid all the action, blood, and a little torture, John Cena continues to be a surprising scene stealer, as well as his band of unreliable black ops colleagues.

What makes Project Butterfly, as they aptly call themselves, so unique is their uncanny ability to continuously and hilariously screw things up.

From Peacemaker's ignorance to his self-proclaimed BFF, Vigilante, played by Freddie Storma, putting himself in peril just to prove his a loyal friend, - the show continues its streak of ridiculousness and mayhem, all in the name of peace.

Spoilers ahoy!

Peacemaker's tragic past comes to light

It turns out the leader of Project Butterfly, Chukwudi Iwuji's Clemson Murn, is actually a butterfly!

This was revealed in the last few moments of the episode as he was seen extending a long tongue to drink honey, a gross-out scene that's pretty hard to unsee.

Apparently, this is a sure sign that a person is really a butterfly.

But this also adds more confusion, since it's not quite clear what these "butterflies" are really up to.

After Project Butterfly captures a very tiny bodyguard, Judomaster, who beat the living daylights out of the entire team on multiple occasions, he seems just about to spill the beans on these alien-like creatures before he gets shot by Adebayo, played by Danielle Fisher.

So fans will have to wait a little longer to uncover the big mystery behind the winged-creatures.

At least Peacemaker was smart enough to nab one for himself, since his own team isn't forthcoming with information.

Another interesting reveal as that Peacemaker had an older brother who died under "mysterious circumstances." Flashbacks hint that his death may have been Peacemaker's fault, which makes a lot of sense.

The antihero is still longing for the approval of his racist father, The White Dragon, who made it very clear that he favored his brother over him. Talk about toxic family drama.

The only downside to this jaw-dropping episode was the limited screen time for the lovable Eagley, Peacemaker's actually bestie and partner.

New episodes of Peacemaker air on HBO Max every Thursday.
