Akuapem Poloo, a Ghanaian actor who also goes by the English name Rosemond Brown, has been given a harsh sentencing by her country's justice system.

To celebrate her son's 7th birthday in June 2020, the 32-year-old posted a photo on social media showing herself and her child partially dressed.

The actor appears completely nude, with her hair covering her breasts, while her son wears underwear and stands in front of her.

Outraged internet users reported the photo to police in Ghana. Poloo was subsequently charged with domestic violence and publishing obscene material.

After a lengthy trial, the mother was sentenced to 90 days in jail earlier this year, according to the New York Post. She appealed, but on Wednesday, the High Court upheld the sentencing, deeming that it was not excessive.

"The publication of obscene materials is on the increase," Judge Christiana Cann initially ruled. "A harsh sentence will serve as a deterrent."

After the judge's order denying her appeal was made public this week, Poloo posted multiple photos of herself with her son on Instagram – this time, fully clothed.

"Son I love you and God is with you always you know. Be good till Mummy comes back. God is in control always," she captioned the new shots.

The single mom has received support from fans and celebrities alike. Rapper Cardi B (29) criticized the three-month detention as disproportionate.

"I seen a lot of Americans do photoshoots like that," she tweeted. "I don’t think she was going for sexual more going the natural idea. I think jail is a bit harsh."

Poloo showed her gratitude to supporters during her family's trying time.

"Thank you for all your love and support especially the media and my celebrities who continue to show me love and support," she wrote on Wednesday.

Fellow Ghanaian actor Tracey Boakye (30) will reportedly take care of Poloo's son while she serves time behind bars.
