Father arrested for intentionally driving Tesla off "Devil's Slide" with family inside

San Mateo County, California - A man has been arrested after he drove his Tesla off of a cliff with his wife and children inside, which law enforcement believe may have been intentional.

The harrowing accident occurred on Monday morning, as the car drive off the part of Pacific Coast Highway known as "Devil's Slide," flipping several times in the air. The family of four inside miraculously survived.

According to a press release from the California Highway Patrol, the driver, Dharmesh A. Patel (41), has now been arrested after "investigators worked throughout the night interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence from the scene."

"Based on the evidence collected, investigators developed probable cause to believe this incident was an intentional act," the release said.

Patel, a radiologist from Pasadena, will face charges of attempted murder and child abuse once he is released from Stanford Medical Center, where he is staying for injuries sustained in the crash.

The car was reportedly heading southbound on the road before it drove off the cliff, and landed on its wheels 250 feet below.

Emergency responders worked for three hours to rescue the family, which included Patel's wife (41), daughter (7), and son (4). Fortunately, everyone sustained only minor to moderate injuries.

Dharmesh A. Patel will be booked at the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City upon his release from the hospital, where he will face criminal charges.
