According to News4SanAntonio, San Antonio Police officers responded to an emergency call from a woman who reported that she was letting her neighbor's kids shower and eat at her place.

The three girls – aged 11, 13, and 15 – hadn't seen their mother, Lorraine Sue Garza, since June 3. According to San Antonio Express-News, their neighbor notified police on June 14.

When San Antonio police officers investigated the house where the children were staying, they could barely believe their eyes!

They found horrendous amounts of spoiled food, trash, insects and animal feces on the floor and carpet.

While the outdoor temperature was close to 100 degrees at the time, the house had no air conditioning except for one room with a working ceiling fan.

And to make matters worse, the water was turned off by the city water department on May 21 for non-payment.

The oldest sibling later told police that their mother had taken the family's only cellphone, leaving the girls unable to contact her.

Four days later, on June 18, Garza was arrested. She has been charged with two counts of child abandonment.

The children have since been removed from the home by the Texas Department of Family and Adult Protective Services.
