South Carolina - Actor Hayden Panettiere's cause of death has been confirmed by an official report as police investigate her sudden death.

On Monday, officials said that the 36-year-old's recent death had been ruled an accidental overdose of multiple drugs, including fentanyl.

No signs of trauma were found on her body indicating foul play.

Then on Tuesday, the Greenville County Coroner's Office clarified all of the drugs involved in her death: fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Quetiapine, Alprazolam, and Methocarbamol.

The Nashville star was found unresponsive at her South Carolina apartment, where police had been called to following a report of cardiac arrest.

Panettiere's on-and-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson, who was present at the apartment complex during her death, provided officers with a "bag of medication" he said she had been taking.

Hickerson is an aspiring actor from South Carolina whose relationship with the Heroes actor previously ended in 2020 following alleged domestic abuse.

In 2019, he pleaded no contest to a charge of injuring a girlfriend or spouse and was sentenced to four years' probation.

Panettiere further pursued a restraining order against him in 2020.

The couple had been dating once again at the time of Panettiere's death, her mother confirmed to NBC News.
