Vienna, Austria– An Austrian convicted for planning to attack a 2024 Taylor Swift concert in Vienna on Wednesday failed to win damages from Walt Disney over the publication of his family's address in a documentary series about the megastar's tour.
Disney has been screening the series about Swift's record-breaking Eras Tour since last year. The show includes scenes about three concerts being cancelled in Vienna after authorities discovered an Islamic State (IS) plot.
In May, an Austrian court sentenced 21-year-old Beran A. to 15 years in jail after he admitted to plotting a foiled jihadist attack on the Swift concert.
In the documentary series on Disney+ titled The End of an Era, Beran A.'s residential address could be briefly seen, which led the Austrian to demand damages.
His lawyer, Ulrike Zeller, argued her client's personal sphere and security had been endangered through the publication "to an audience of millions."
But judge Nicole Baczak dismissed the claim, saying "a concrete endangerment" of Beran A. was unsubstantiated. Baczak also added that neither Beran A. nor the address could be recognised through what has been published.
Zellner said she would appeal the verdict.
Georg Kresbach, the lawyer representing Walt Disney, argued that the disputed material had been removed in May, shortly after the complaint was received.
He also said Beran A.'s parents, who still live at the address, were compensated 3,000 euros, the equivalent of $3,400 each.
Beran A. went on trial in April on terror offenses and other charges in Wiener Neustadt, outside Vienna. He was arrested the day before the canceled concert and has been detained since.
