Top Trump. admin official leaves White House as midterms fallout continues
Washington DC - A top official recently announced his resignation from President Donald Trump's administration following the Republican Party's disappointing performance in last week's midterm elections.
According to Axios, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Richard Walters submitted his resignation on Friday, which one source said was received amicably by the administration.
The departure comes after Democrats last week won a number of key midterm election races across the country, managing to take back the majority in both the House and Senate.
In a defiant move, Trump demoted Susie Wiles, his chief of staff, and replaced her with Stephen Miller, an even stauncher MAGA loyalist known for being the architect of the president's aggressive immigration agenda.
Walters was reportedly one of Wiles' closest political lieutenants, with a relationship stretching back more than a decade.
In a statement, Walters said it has been "the honor of a lifetime" to work for Trump, and that he will "always be thankful to Susie Wiles for the opportunity."
"Stephen is building an incredible and capable team to implement the President's agenda, and I look forward to being part of it from the outside," Walters added.
Miller's appointment appears to signal a major shakeup in the administration, as Trump and his MAGA allies prepare to fight against Democrats who have vowed to hold the president accountable for his leadership.
