Washington DC - Recent polling has found that American's approval of President Donald Trump's leadership has fallen to its lowest point since he first entered politics in 2016.
During an interview on Tuesday, CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins and New York Times reporter and political analyst Maggie Haberman discussed a recent poll from the network that found Trump's approval rating at -32%, compared with -21% for the Republican Party overall.
Haberman noted that Trump's ratings have remained stagnant for some time now, remaining at the lowest point he has reached during either of his two terms in office.
"There is no polling where this president is popular. Let's put it that way," Haberman stated.
She pointed specifically to the subject of affordability, an issue that all Americans have been struggling with, yet Trump has written off as a Democrat "hoax."
"This is the kind of thing that Republicans who are in these districts that are embattled do not want to be dealing with," Haberman said.
Most recent polling has found similar results – a Reuters/Ipsos survey published on Monday recorded his approval at 33%, marking the third time the poll garnered the result.
The numbers are incredibly damning for Trump and the Republicans, who have been desperately fighting to maintain their razor thin majority in both the House and Senate.
If Democrats manage to take back Congress in the November midterms, they will make it hard for Trump to implement his agenda in the second half of his term, and the party has vowed to move to impeach him a third time.
Donald Trump's longstanding feud with Maggie Haberman
Haberman's remarks also come amid a longtime feud with Trump, the president regularly criticizing her reporting and polling analysis – which tends to be highly critical of him and his administration.
Last Friday, he shared a lengthy post on his Truth Social platform, in which he referred to her as "Maggot Hagerman, the Fake Reporter from The Failing New York Times," and an "unattractive person both inside and out."
"She's been falsely writing about me for years – She's a stalker, and should be forced to turn over any and all money that she's made through her fake reporting on me," he added.
