Seoul, South Korea - Former Vice President Kamala Harris recently criticized both Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden for not properly handling Israel and its actions in Gaza.
While delivering a speech at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies on Wednesday, Harris argued the US should have responded sooner to Israel's "horrific conduct," and by not doing so, the US has "fallen short" of its "moral obligation to human rights and international law."
"Most recently, the failure to use our leverage to curtail the Israeli government's horrific conduct in the war in Gaza, both under the current administration, which offers [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu a blank check, and [the Biden] administration before, where we should have acted sooner and more forcefully," Harris said.
During his presidency, Biden did nothing to change the allied relationship between the US and Israel, which for years has consisted of Washington sending millions of dollars annually.
The Trump administration, meanwhile, has pushed to raise that funding while strengthening relations with Israel, even going as far as to launch a joint war against Iran earlier this year.
In 2024, Harris ran for president after Biden dropped out of the race, and she faced some fierce criticism for not speaking out strongly enough against Israel's assault on Gaza.
Her remarks also came as Harris is rumored to be considering another run for president in 2028, though she has said in recent interviews that she is currently focused on helping Democrats win the November midterms.
