On the morning of Saturday, October 7, 2023, around 1000 Palestinian militants launched a multipronged assault on Israel. In retaliation, Israel has announced an all-out war on the Gaza strip, with the stated goal of removing Hamas from power.

Having broken through the barrier between Israel and Gaza, Hamas militants attacked on trucks, motorcycles, and even paragliders and speedboats. Backed up by relentless rocket fire from the Gaza strip, the attackers targeted multiple settlements – called kibbutzes – as well as a music festival, where hundreds of revelers were reported killed.

Specifically targeting and killing civilians, as well as a variety of military installations, equipment, and personnel, Hamas militants killed more than 1000 Israelis, many of them women, children, and the elderly. They also took more than 100 hostages.

In response to the attack on Israel, its government formally declared war on Hamas and, by extension, Gaza. The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) has launched a massive bombardment on the tiny blockaded enclave, where over 2 million people live, levelling entire neighborhoods and killing hundreds. A full-scale ground invasion is also being prepared.
