Washington DC - On Tuesday, three prominent Democrats associated with strongly pro-Israel views were appointed to major positions within the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
In an X post shared on Tuesday, the committee announced that Florida Representative Jared Moskowitz had been chosen to be the top Democrat on the panel's Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee (MENA).
Additionally, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida and Wesley Bell of Missouri have been chosen to sit on the panel.
The news comes as the Democratic Party remains fractured on the subject of Israel. In particular, progressives continue to push for the government to stop funding its violence in Gaza.
All three politicians recently managed to win their Democratic primaries after being challenged by progressive candidates that criticized them for taking massive amounts of money from pro-Israel lobbies, such as AIPAC.
All three politicians believe that Israel serves as a direct extension of the Jewish community, and argue that opposition to the violence, which has been found to be genocide by the UN, is inherently antisemitic.
Their views are notably inconsistent with party voters as a whole – a Pew Research Center poll taken in April found that 80% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents had unfavorable views of Israel.
