Austin, Texas - Senate candidates James Talarico and Ken Paxton are nearing the end of their heated campaign, but how are they faring against each other in the polls?
A recent Fox News poll – which surveyed 881 likely voters between September 24 and 28 – found Talarico holding a thin lead, with 51% to Paxton's 49%.
Another poll from The New York Times / Siena – which surveyed 615 likely voters between September 21 and 30 – garnered similar results, finding Talarico at 51% and Paxton at 45%.
Talarico – who defeated Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett in the Democratic primaries – has become a rising star and is hopeful that he may be able to turn the seat blue for the first time in decades.
Paxton – a staunch Christian conservative – holds sway in Texas with years of experience as the state's Attorney General and has the strong endorsement of President Donald Trump.
But in recent years, his career has been drowning in scandals, including a messy divorce that is believed to have stemmed from infidelity and an impeachment by his own party for bribery.
During a campaign event in Ohio on Saturday night, Trump spent several minutes criticizing Talarico for being vegan and accusing him of secretly eating meat – despite Talarico not actually being vegan.
It's worth noting that polls can sometimes be misleading, as several popular progressive Democrats this year lost their primary bids, despite gaining notable attention within the party.
