Irving, California – This poor little dog was so distraught that he refused help. Luckily, a nice neighbor had an idea that made all the difference; per veteran dog rescuer Suzette Hall, they gave "exactly what this sweet boy needed most."
This little dog was a wreck after being abandoned, and he ran when anyone approached. He was too afraid to accept aid.
"Then one amazing neighbor did exactly what this sweet boy needed most– he gave him a safe place to simply be," Suzette Hall wrote on Facebook last week.
"He put a blanket in his yard for him, along with food and water. No chasing. No grabbing. No pressure. Just a soft place to lay his tired little body down and feel safe," the Californian continued.
The little dog understood that the soft space was safe and settled in immediately. "He had almost everything he needed… except love," Hall wrote.
Together with her colleague Rosario, Hall blocked off the yard the dog had settled into and got to work.
The rescuers then had to convince the scared animal that they were there to help. Hall reports: "I sat with him. I talked to him. I told him over and over, “We’re here to help you. You’re going to be OK.”
Once he was safe the little dog melted
Hall says coaxing this little dog was difficult. "It took some time, and eventually we had to gently corner him so we could get a slip lead around him," She added.
"He definitely wasn’t happy about it at first. He didn’t understand."
Once Hall got the poor dog to the vet, she says something snapped into place: "When I got him to my vet and took him out of the cage, everything changed. Oh my goodness… he just melted into my arms."
"It was as if, in that very moment, he finally understood. He knew he didn’t have to wander anymore," Hall gushed.
The little dog is now safe at the shelter and getting the help he needs. Hall hopes that now that he's safe, he'll find a family to love.
