Los Angeles, California - Britney Spears' former husband Jason Alexander has been charged with four misdemeanors after he showed up at the singer's Los Angeles home as she prepared for her wedding to Sam Asghari.

Ventura County Sheriff's Department said that the 40-year-old has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery, one count of misdemeanor vandalism, and one count of misdemeanor trespassing following the incident.

Officers responded to an incident of alleged trespassing at Britney's address and later arrested Alexander.

He was originally arrested for an out-of-county warrant but will now face the additional four charges.

Sergeant Cyrus Zadeh told the PA news agency that there was some trouble with security officers and that items had been broken.

"An altercation occurred with the security officers and that's where the battery occurred... and during the altercation an item was broken so that's where the vandalism comes into play. And by being on private property, the trespass comes into play," he said.

Shortly before the incident, Britney's former partner Alexander posted an Instagram Live story from outside her property in which he said he was there to "crash" the wedding. The two were famously married for just 55 hours in 2004.

Sergeant Zadeh said the shocking incident occurred before the wedding took place and those involved wanted to prosecute. Alexander was transferred to a police station following the incident and is expected to later be transferred to Ventura County jail.

The intimate wedding ceremony between Britney and her fitness trainer partner Sam Asghari was held on Thursday. This is Britney's third trip down the aisle. She was also previously married to Kevin Federline, with whom she has two children.
