On Monday, the Don't Worry Darling star got real about his private love life with the 38-year-old director in his Rolling Stone cover story.

The 28-year-old singer thinks that, while keeping his personal life private has its benefits, it doesn't stop critics from forming their own opinions.

"There's always going to be a version of a narrative, and I think I just decided I wasn’t going to spend the time trying to correct it or redirect it in some way," Styles told the publication.

And when it comes to the pop singer's relationship with Wilde, whom he began dating early 2021, it didn't "feel good" dealing with the negativity surrounding their romance.

"It's obviously a difficult feeling to feel like being close to me means you're at the ransom of a corner of Twitter or something. I just wanted to sing. I didn't want to get into it if I was going to hurt people like that," he said.

Wilde, who was also present for the chat, jumped in to insist that the majority of Styles' fans were "deeply loving people" and "true champions of kindness."

"What I don’t understand about the cruelty you're referencing is that that kind of toxic negativity is the antithesis of Harry, and everything he puts out there," the Booksmart director said, adding that she doesn't believe the "hateful" energy defines his entire fan base.

Nevertheless, the pair aren't letting the naysayers get in the way of their happiness, and Styles also spilled that he can see a family in his future.

"Well, if I have kids at some point, I will encourage them to be themselves and be vulnerable and share," the singer added.
