The oldest Kardashian sister is a born reality TV star. After all, that's all she's ever known.

Thanks to her father, celebrity lawyer Robert Kardashian (†59), she was used to the spotlight from a very young age on.

Her friendship with Paris Hilton in the early 2000s also drew a lot of attention to her.

However, it was a scandal from 2007 that eventually changed the game for the young woman and made Kim Kardashian a household name all over the world.

That's when the porn production company Vivid Entertainment got hold of a very private video of her and her then-boyfriend Ray J from 2002 and the rest is history.

The media went crazy. Every other headline mentioned the sex tape, her face was plastered all over the media. All the while, Kim "hated everything that was going on around that tape," the executive producer of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Farnaz Farjam, told the LA Times.

She even went to file a lawsuit against the company over the distribution of the video, but later dropped the suit in exchange for a $5 million payment.

"It was a hard time for Kim," Farjam continued.

And still, only a few months after the leak, the Kardashian family got together to shoot the very first episode of the hit show KUWTK – and immediately addressed the elephant in the room, as Kourtney asked her sister why she decided to make the tape in the first place.

"Because I was horny and felt like it," the reality star replied at the time.

In the LA Times interview, Farjam, Kim and Lisa Berger, the executive vice president of original programming and series development at E!, explained why they decided to address it on the show.

"We all talked about, 'We just have to own all the controversy around this family,'" Farjam said, to which Kim added: "In a way, filming has helped us deal with things, instead of sweeping them under the rug."

Since she knew that someone was going to ask her about it eventually, her attitude was: "I might as well just go ahead and do it."

In the end, Kim thinks she probably wouldn't have been so open about the situation if it wasn't for the show and is happy with the way everything turned out.

"At the end of the day, I was always open and honest and wanted to share whatever I was going through. I wasn't gonna hold back."
