Per The Hollywood Reporter, Damon Lindelof, known for his work on ABC's Lost and HBO's Watchmen, has been attached to the project for a few months now. The 49-year-old is co-writing the script with Justin Britt-Gibson.

On Sunday, it was revealed that Academy Award-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is on board to direct the project.

The 43-year-old has already ventured into the world of Disney-owned franchises, having directed several episodes of Ms. Marvel.

Any details about the plot of the upcoming Star Wars project are being kept strictly under wraps as of right now. However, rumors are swirling that it will take place after 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, which concluded the Star Wars sequel trilogy, though it is not expected to be a continuation of the saga. Speculation about the potential returns of the trilogy's characters is now running rampant as well.

The franchise's latest additions have largely been contained to the small screen, with The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor all now streaming on Disney+.

According to Disney's planned timeline, the earliest possible release date for the new film is December 2025.
