St. Petersburg, Russia - Two shows by Kanye West to be played in Russia in October are hanging in the balance after the concert venue said on Monday that no agreement had been struck regarding the lease.
The Gazprom Arena in St. Petersburg said that no contracts had been signed to rent the venue.
"Consequently, the concert cannot take place on our premises," it said in a statement posted on its website.
Moscow-based concert organizer Say-Agency, however, stressed that a deadline to sign a deal was not until Wednesday.
"At the moment, the Ye concert hasn’t been cancelled!" the agency wrote on Telegram, referring to the rapper who is also known as Ye.
The organizer said it was trying to contact Gazprom Arena.
West (49) has faced repeated criticism in recent years over racist and antisemitic remarks, including a 2025 song titled Heil Hitler.
He issued an apology in a full-page letter published in the Wall Street Journal at the start of the year, where he attributed his "reckless behavior" and "poor judgment" to a bipolar disorder.
Several European concerts of the rapper were canceled earlier this year, including in Poland, the UK, and Italy, amid growing backlash.
West has scheduled performances in St. Petersburg for October 10 and 11. Tickets sold out quickly after the dates were announced last week, with the cheapest going for around $116, according to local media.
