Washington DC - Three Secret Service officials were placed on leave on Tuesday as the agency continues to face scrutiny over repeated failures.

According to AP News, the agency's professional standards office reported that it is carrying out a probe regarding potential misconduct while the agents were operating in non-law-enforcement capacities.

As the review has just begun, details about the misconduct are still under wraps, though some have speculated it may be connected to a recent controversy surrounding an incident earlier this month in which the agency secretly moved President Donald Trump from Air Force One to a decoy plane due to reports of a possible attack by Iran.

The investigation is notable considering the Secret Service has faced scrutiny in recent years, as there have been multiple assassination attempts against the president, with reviews of some of the incidents uncovering glaring failures made by the agency.

The Department of Homeland Security's Office of the Inspector General recently released a report detailing how the Secret Service "missed multiple opportunities to detect, prevent, and disrupt" a gunman who shot the president during a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024.

Last month, the Secret Service also confirmed that an agent serving on Vice President JD Vance's security detail was being investigated for allegedly leaking information to the media in relation to a story regarding agents.
