Ocean Springs, Mississippi - More than a month after 18-year-old Nolan Wells disappeared during a Fourth of July outing and his body was found along a Gulf Coast barrier island, two people who are believed to have been with him returned to the remote island to investigate themselves.

On Friday, Warren Hudson and Jax Pitalo, who are believed to have been friends of Wells, returned to Horn Island to "investigate the layout and dynamic," their attorneys told CNN.

Hudson and Pitalo are said to have spent roughly three hours on the island on Friday. Their attorneys – attorney J. Tyler Cox and defamation lawyer Edward Andrew Paltzik, per TMZ – described the trip as "very emotional."

A third friend, Morgan Seymour, was planning on returning to the island, the attorneys told CNN. However, it's unclear if they went with Hudson and Pitalo on Friday. It's also unclear if the three have completed interviews with investigators. However, Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter previously told the Sun Herald that the three friends who traveled with Wells to Horn Island had been interviewed at length.

“We are proud to stand with and fight for three completely innocent young men,” the attorneys told CNN in a joint statement, noting that they, in defense of their clients, "will be focused solely on the truth, which is that these innocent young men had nothing whatsoever to do with the tragic death of Nolan Wells."

There has been much public interest in Wells' case, with several arrests made related to threats and an OnlyFans model entering the online discourse, leading a friend of Wells to threaten legal action. Still, no one has been arrested or charged in connection with Wells' death.

The Mississippi State Medical Examiner's Office is conducting the full autopsy and is still awaiting toxicology results, which could take weeks.
