Washington DC - President Donald Trump recently attacked Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico in a series of wild social media posts.
On Thursday, Trump announced that he was traveling to Texas to help embattled Republican candidate Ken Paxton as he prepares to take on Talarico in November.
Ahead of his trip, the president shared a barrage of posts on his Truth Social platform that sought to undermine Paxton's Democratic challenger.
In one, Trump shared a photo that listed policies he claimed Talarico was running on, which included such things as "amnesty for all illegals," "men in women's sports and restrooms," "sex change surgery for kids," and "abortion on demand."
Several of Trump's posts attempted to liken Talarico's looks to that of Alfred E. Neuman, the fictional mascot of MAD Magazine.
Others attacked and questioned his Christian faith, criticized his support for slavery reparations, slammed him for urging Americans to get vaccinated, and repeatedly referred to him using Trump's favorite nickname – "Tala Freako."
While announcing his trip to Texas during a press conference on Thursday, Trump explained he coined the nickname because Talarico is "a little bit freaky."
The attacks come as multiple polls have found the 37-year-old leading the race, despite Texas' longstanding reputation of being a deeply red state.
In recent years, Paxton has faced a messy divorce battle, longstanding securities fraud charges, and impeachment in the Texas House of Representatives.
Despite his many woes, Trump and Republicans have continued to enthusiastically back him, while repeatedly claiming Talarico doesn't represent "the values of Texas."
