Augusta, Maine - Maine Senate candidate Troy Jackson brutally slammed Susan Collins, an incumbent senator and his GOP opponent, for having not held a constituency town hall "in the last 25 years."

Jackson announced a series of constituency town halls for this week, including on Tuesday in Lewiston, on Thursday in Gorham, and on Saturday in Jay.

Over the weekend, the former state Senate president said he had invited Collins to attend the town halls as well. Her team has clarified that she prefers smaller group meetings rather than larger town halls.

"I'm hosting my first town hall of the Senate campaign this week – which will be one more than Susan Collins has held in the last 25 years," Jackson wrote on X alongside a clip of him speaking on MSNOW.

"I'm excited to debate Senator Collins, and I've invited her to join me at any of our three town halls this week so Mainers can ask both of us their questions directly. See you there, Susan?"

Jackson came into the race late, entering in mid July after his predecessor, oyster farmer Graham Platner, stepped out of the race amid serious allegations of sexual assault and toxic behavior towards women.

Backed by numerous pro-abortion organizations including Planned Parenthood, as well as Democrats like Bernie Sanders, Jackson is campaigning on a progressive platform and in staunch opposition to the Trump administration.

"Rather than playing political games about town halls, Troy Jackson should explain what he accomplished during all those years in power to make life more affordable for Maine families," said a Collins campaign spokesperson in a statement cited by Bangor Daily News.

"It's about time Troy Jackson starts answering questions from voters since he has a lot to answer for."
