Will Arch Manning score playing time amid Quinn Ewers' injury?
Austin, Texas - Hold on to your horses, Longhorn fans, your touted freshman quarterback Arch Manning just may see the field this season after all!
Over the weekend, Texas Longhorns' starting quarterback, Quinn Ewers, unfortunately, suffered a Grade 2 AC joint shoulder sprain during their hard-fought 31-24 victory against the Houston Cougars.
While the injury won't end his season, Ewers is expected to sit out for several games this year.
In this weekend's crucial matchup against BYU, the reins will be in the hands of Maalik Murphy, a promising redshirt freshman, standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 238 pounds.
He admirably led the Longhorns to their narrow win in Ewers' absence during the weekend showdown. Looking ahead to the BYU game, Murphy will assume the starting position, with Manning serving as the backup.
In a thrilling development for fans, both Murphy and Manning will receive first-team practice reps this week, head coach Steve Sarkisian revealed on Monday.

Sarkisian mentioned that while Ewers' injury doesn't have a return timetable and is on a week-to-week basis, Murphy and Manning will step up in the quarterback position.
"Go through the week with Maalik Murphy and Arch Manning both getting first-team reps. If the game was being played today, Maalik would start the game. Arch will be ready to go," Sarkisian told the media on Monday.
Ever since Arch Manning committed to playing for the Burnt Orange, eager fans have eagerly awaited the opportunity to see him in a 'Horns uniform.
Although Manning is unlikely to be the starting player in the upcoming game this weekend, fans can anticipate him getting some limited playing time against BYU.
"I've had a ton of confidence in Arch. A couple of weeks ago, he had a fantastic practice. And so I’m really encouraged by that," Sarkisian added.
The Longhorns are set to host BYU this weekend at home on Saturday at 3:30 PM ET.
