Dave Chappelle reportedly delivered "fake" SNL monologue in rehearsals

New York, New York - Comedian Dave Chappelle's controversial SNL monologue may have been very different from the one he performed during rehearsals.

A source told Page Six that the Half Baked actor performed a "fake" monologue during rehearsals, and switched it up when he hit the stage for the live taping of the show.

"Dave does a fake monologue during the dress rehearsal, because he doesn’t want [SNL creator] Lorne Michaels, or anyone else, to know what his real monologue is," the source explained.

The star's real monologue, which lasted over 15 minutes, included a lengthy bit about recent antisemitic remarks made by rapper Kanye West.

While he began by stating "I denounce antisemitism in all its forms," his other remarks got pretty close to legitimizing Kanye's "concerns."

"I can see if you had some type of issue, you might go out to Hollywood and start connecting some kind of lines, and you could maybe adopt the delusion that Jews run show business," Chappelle said.

"It's not a crazy thing to think, but it's a crazy thing to say out loud in a climate like this," he added.

Chappelle stokes more controversy

While many fans have taken to social media to defend Chappelle and his monologue, others have taken offense to it.

Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, in a tweet described it as "disturbing" that the show would "not just normalize but popularize antisemitism."

The show's announcement of Chappelle hosting was met with criticism. While it is his third time hosting the show, it was the first since his most recent Netflix stand-up special The Closer was deemed by many to contain transphobic material.

It was also reported that SNL staff writers had opted to boycott Saturday's episode with Chappelle.
